Up to 80 scholarships are offered on a competitive basis each year
for postgraduates undertaking one-year masters' Degrees. The annual value of each
new award is £3000. Awards to cover the level of UK fees are available to new
research students who have also been awarded an ORS Scholarship under the Committee of
Vice-Chancellors' and Principals' Overseas Research Support Scheme. The scholarships
are credited towards the academic fees due on registration as a student of the University.
International students who are applying to begin courses leading to postgraduate degrees
at the University of Leeds are eligible to apple for Tetley and Lupton awards.
Application Procedure
All applications for scholarships form prospective
postgraduate students should be sent direct to the relevant department in which study is
sought.
A scholarship applicant must also apply be a separate
procedure for admission to the University as a student:
•Study for a One-year Full-Time mastership:
Applicants must apply for admission on the Leeds University application form for 'Taught
postgraduate Study' (for a taught mastership) or the form for 'Research Degree Study' (for
a mastership by Research). This may be done at the same time as applying for a
scholarship: the two forms should be sent to the relevant department in which study is
sought.
•Research PhD study:
The scholarships will only be awarded to new PhD research students who have been
successful in the ORS competition. Applicants must apply for admission on the Leeds
university application form for 'Research Degree Study'.
All applicants for ORS awards, who are commencing PhD
research degree study, are automatically considered for Tetley and Lupton Scholarships and
do not need to submit a separate Tetley and Lupton application form.
Scholarship applications will be considered only from
individuals who have already applied, or been accepted, for admission to the University.

Full-Time mastership Students
One-year Mastership students will be selected in a
competition within their faculty. An assessment is made on both academic achievement
of each application and his/her potential for academic success at the University.
Research postgraduates will only be offered a scholarship
if their application for an ORS award is successful.
Announcement of Scholarships
The award of scholarships will be announced at various
times during the year. Where a candidate's admission to the University is dependent
on the result of examinations not known until a later date, the award of a scholarship
will be conditional.
Termination of Scholarships
A scholarship may be terminated at any time when an
unsatisfactory progress report is received from the head of department concerned or when
an award holder ceases to be a full-time registered student of the University or when an
award holder obtains another award which covers the payment of tuition fees in full.
Eligibility
Scholarships will be awarded only to students who are:
•i liable to pay
the tuition fees at the 'full cost' rate for international students;
•ii accepted for
admission as a full-time student for a master's degree or
a research degree at the University of Leeds;
but
•iii not holding
another award which covers the payment of tuition fees in
full; and the payment of tuition fees in
full; and
•iv not currently
registered as a student at the University of Leeds for the
course for which the scholarship is sought.
An international undergraduate already a student at Leeds may apply for a Tetley and
Lupton scholarship for postgraduate study provided the application is made before 1 March
preceding the start of the postgraduate studies.
