Teacher
Training and Development Courses
Teacher Training and Development Courses are specifically designed for non-native speaker
English teachers who already posess a good knowledge of English and who:- wish to keep abreast of
the most recent developments in language
teaching.

practice and see how current trends apply to
them.
- are enthusiastic about creating
new ideas and trying them in the
classroom.
- wish to develop their own level
of English as well as theaching techniques.
RSA/UCLES Certificate in English Language Teaching to
Adults (CELTA)
RSA/UCLES is the longest established certificate course in
the field of teaching English as a foreign language. The course is designed for those who:
- are interested in entering a career teaching English as a
foreign language.
- are English teachers wishing to obtain an internationally
recognised qualification.
- are language teachers wishing to extend and develop their
existing skills.
Course Structure
The course is a minimum of 100 hours in duration and is offered both on a part-time and
full-time basis. During the course you develop a practical awareness of the needs of adult
learners, the English language and language learning materials. During your course you are
required to demonstrate this awareness through a practical ability to plan and carry out
lessons; to focus on language appropriate to students' needs and help them to develop
their skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing. You also undertake a detailed
case study of one of your students, assessing their strengths and weaknesses and making
for their future language development. Your tutors check your work and progress.

Price
The price of a full-time course is £875 which is exclusive of accommodation but
inclusive of all RSA registration fees.
Required Qualifications
Most
entrants are University graduates or qualified teachers. You may also be a candidate if
you can demonstrate to the University that you have the aptitude to cope with the rigorous
nature of the course. The minimum age limit is 20 years. There is no upper age limit.
RSA/UCLES Diploma in English Language Teaching to
Adults (DELTA)
The DELTA course is an intensive and very rewarding course
which is designed for those who:
- are experienced EFL teachers.
- are interested in extending their skills in EFL teaching.
- are interested in developing their career at home or abroad.
Course Structure
The course consists of 120 hours made up of 30 x 4 hour sessions. Intensive input from
experts in teacher training helps you to extend the skills you have developed through EFL
teaching. You receive training in the most recent methodologies, are shown how to develop
your classroom creativity and develop your understanding of teaching reading and writing
skills. You also have the opportunity to demostrate your progress in the classroom.
In addition we help you to achieve a critical sense of the appropriateness of varied
methods and techniques. You examine and discuss such issues as language awareness,
pronunciation, course book evaluation, principles of class design and course planning.
Candidates are assessed by assignments, observed teaching and final exam.
Course
Price
The
course at Durham is £1,400. If you are accepted on the course after interview, a
payment of £400 is required to ensure your place. The remaining amount may be paid
in two instalments, one instalment of £500 to be paid at the start of the course and
the second instalment of £500 at the beginning of week four by all candidates.
There is an additional CILTS fee of £110 (at time of printing) payable to Cambridge
through the Language Centre on the first day of the course
