Education is a lively, multi-disciplinary Faculty, staffed by eminent specialists
in all fields of education, offering a stimulating environment in which to pursue courses
of academic and professional development. The Faculty of Education, the University's
ninth faculty, was formed in August 1998 when the University of Edinburgh merged with
Moray House Institute of Education, which had been in existence for over 150 years.
It remains a major centre for postgraduate education within Scotland. As well as maintaining commitment to the initial training of
teachers, the Faculty is active in developing pre-service and in-service courses and
research opportunities for education and the allied professions. In support of the
Faculty's commitment to life-long education, postgraduate courses in community education
are offered alongside associated research activities.
