The
beautiful county of Kent lies just to the south east of London, and within easy reach of
the two main airports of Gatwick and Heathrow whilst visitors arriving by ferry from
France, Belgium or The Netherlands will disembark at one of the Kent ports - Dover,
Folkestone, Ramsgate or sheerness.
The two cathedral cities of Canterbury and Rochester, the famous white cliffs of Dover,
the links with the author Charles Dickens, some of the finest castles, stately homes and
gardens in the country and a wealth of attractive villages all go to make up a county well
worth exploring.
For centuries Kent has been known as the
"Garden of England" because of the glorious countryside with its oasthouses, hop
gardens, orchards, vineyards, wooded copses and gentle hills which combine to form a
unique landscape unequalled elsewhere. Each season brings its own particular beauty to the
gardens of Kent - the spring flowers are quickly followed by the early summer display of
stunning rhododendrons and the typically English herbaceous border. Autumn brings its own
glory with the hues of the trees blending with the mellow villages and half timbered
cottages.
